A love of books

"Reading is a discount ticket to everywhere."- Mary Schmich I'm one of those people who always and I mean always has a book in their bag. Whether I'm reading it for the first time, the second time or the 50th time has never mattered to me. I read at home, in lectures, trains, buses, restaurants, the canteen, the bathroom. I'm famous for reading anything, anywhere, anyplace, anytime. I've been known to read menus in restaurants for lack of other reading material. I was famous in school for walking down roads and reading books. There was even a rumour that I banged into a BEST bus because I was walking along and reading. Which by the way, is an absolute lie, I was racing along on a bicycle and well... Anyway that's a story for another day. Books are truly my best friend. I love the way I feel when I walk into a library or a Crossword book store. The sight of all those books renders me speechless and all I want to do just then is start browsing through all t

Finally a Wilsonian

I've always been ever so slightly ashamed to say that I'm in Wilsons. Shallow maybe but true. In my three years in Wilson's , I've always held on to my identity as a Xavierite, looking ever so subtly down my nose at all things Wilson. Except my department related things that is. Sporadically over the last three years, I've often wished I was in Xaviers . At the end of every year, contemplating changing colleges and switching back to Xaviers. But something held me back. Whether it was just plain laziness, not wanting to acclimatise myself again with new professors, classmates and friends or something more deeper and profound I don't really know. But now that it's my last year in Wilson's and effectively my last semester too. I find myself depressed at the thought that I won't be in Wilson's anymore. There's so much that I will miss. More than I ever thought possible. And as I stood there on my graduation night, with my cap and my gown, I felt

What's more disgusting

than finding hair in your food? Finding a dead cockroach in your bowl of noodles. What makes it worse? It happens in your college canteen. The place you've eaten at almost everyday for the last three years.

My lil Blogging world.

I haven't been blogging for very long. Just six months. And I already can't live without it. It's much better than therapy. I have some blogging friends now. Mynie, Ace, Xorkes. People who actually comment and let me know what they think. I have blogs I regularly check. Compulsive Confessor, ??! etc etc. But until a couple of days back, I didn't realise how big a part of my life blogging has become. Not until the Mad Momma announced that she was shutting down her blog. And I was devastated. Hers is a blog I check all the time. As soon as I'm online, hers is the first blog I traipse across to. As essential as my morning cup of coffee. I feel as though the Brat, the Bean, the OA, the Mad sibling and the Mad Momma are a part of my family. I've laughed my head off at their antics and empathised with what she says more often than not and said better than I could ever hope to. I kept checking her blog whenever I came online in the hope I would see a change of heart a

History Repeats Itself

What has basically brought this post on, is this article in the Mumbai Mirror. This has me really riled up. Why should the cops have to pay for the irresponsibility of politicians. Aren't they human beings too? Why shouldn't they get leave? And what the hell is Raj Thackeray thinking when he comes out with statements like that? Aren't the migrants working too? At least they're earning an honest living. Why target taxi drivers and innocent vendors and destroy their property? My heart bled for the taxi driver who's taxi was stomped on by the MNS workers and the windshield and doors broken. Do they realise how hard it is for those taxi drivers who have had to pay so much for their taxis and which they have probably taken under loans? And what is with being Maharashtrians? Isn't it more important for us to be Indians first? Why should it matter which state the corner samosa vendor is from as long as he's from India? And more importantly, why the ordinary man? Wh

Tagged

I've just randomly decided to do this considering nobody tags me. Ever. :(. But anyway here goes. Instructions: Remove 1 question from below, and add in your personal question, make it a total of 20 questions, then tag 8 people in your list, list them out at the end of this post. Notify them in their chat box that he/she has been tagged. 1. Name Three Most Valuable Assets? Friends and family(isn't that obvious), trustworthiness(??) 2. If you were to be stranded on a desert island, who are the 3 blog buddies you would take with you? From the unknown ones, MadMomma , Compulsive Confessor and ??!. I simply love their writing styles and I'm very very curious about their non-internet selves. In the case of the MadMomma though, I'd make her bring along the Brat and the Bean and the OA too. The ones I know personally are a little bit tougher but it would have to be Mynie Moe , The Juiceman and Xorkes . 3.Where is the place that you want to go the most ? I want to travel the

Music Tames the wild beast

I've never been very much into music and before you all gasp in horror, and let me say that while I do love my music. I've never been much of a listener. I'm not constantly glued to my Ipod or VH1. But I had a beautiful experience with music today. Our college farewell is coming up and we've been practising to perform a song. A cappella to be precise. We sang together today for hours and hours and I dont think I was bored for even a minute. And it wasn't jsut thanks to the people. It was thanks to the music. I was amazed at the way everybody was working so hard. Sopranos, altos, tenors and bass. And I think I'm an alto. Music does bring people together. For a few hours at least, we put aside all differences. Gathered together and sang our hearts out. Listened to the music, laughed and tried to teach each other. I appreciate the power of music more and more. In case, your wondering the song we were singing is Lean On Me. The original is by Al Green but I love the
